Considering the amount of problems alcohol abuse is responsible for in society compared to recreational use of cannabis, it scarcely makes sense for the government to hide instead of acknowledging the urgency of trialing properly, and allowing its immediate controlled medical use in such cases where it is painfully obvious that the alternative (to not act reasonably, compassionately) is both irrational and something beyond cruel.

If you drink a certain amount of alcohol, you will (very likely) die. With cannabis it is a different story. Indeed I think the health benefits of having a less damaging alternative to alcohol would become apparent quickly. I'm sure I'm not unusual in saying I have seen peoples' lives blighted or ended by alcohol, and I am not anti-alcohol by any means. I'm just trying to look at this with a perspective that recognises that people may legally (gradually or suddenly) poison themselves to death with the one, but may not use its safer relative in a controlled medicinal capacity for reasons of relief and mercy. Yet we KNOW the one damages many organs, in many instances. The reasonable question is WHY do they drag their feet? I'm sorry to say that the reasons seem obvious, namely: laziness and cowardice.
