Yes, your book brought back many memories,good and bad, of the blitz and later St Illtyds. We usually huddled under the stairs with our next door neighbour whilst my father would be out the front with another neighbour on lookout for incendiary bombs holding a dustbin lid over his head to ward of shrapnel.every time the whistle of a falling bomb was heard it was accompanied by the crash of his dustbin lid as they dropped to the floor.I can still remember the feeling of relief when the "all clear" sounded.
