Francis Maude came to the Commons to proclaim the virtues of Reform by the coalition. Sadly he reacted badly to my pointing out that Politics remains bleakly un-reformed. Although I gave him five targets to defend he chose none and weakly indulged in ad hominem bleat that tried to shoot the messenger.
Paul Flynn: Why no reforms of the continuing parliamentary scandals of cash for access to politicians, cash to buy peerages, no break in the revolving door that allows retiring ministers to prostitute their insider knowledge to the highest bidder, and no controls over lobbyists who are still free to buy influence and privilege in this House? Isn’t he ashamed of himself that after five years in government, the reputation of politics still remains firmly in the gutter?
Francis Maude: I can’t imagine a greater contribution to that reputation than the honourable gentleman going on about it all the time. The fact is – as he above all people ought to know – most people come into this particular form of public service, known as politics, for high reasons, and high motivation, and do what they do in an honourable way. He might just occasionally shrug off that carapace of cynicism and give due credit to public servants in this House as outside.
Typical brainless ad hominem attack.
When caught out, kick the player not the ball.

Cant believe how touchy they are given that they have made life unbearably hard for millions and made countries desolate.
There are good people and bad people but Ive yet to see any encouraging signs that a Tory is anything other than a selfish, unpatriotic menace.
These would drag us down to the very bottom if it assists their own wealth. Im afraid to say that these are the worst of the worst.
This party might have been of some assistance when Britain ruled the waves and the sun never set... but only to the upper class. Now they are diminished.
The army serve these people. They get paid at least. Britain is a weak country if the evidence of its political leaders is anything to go by.
Why cant we have leaders TODAY who are on our side?
They mislead us and unsettle us. Good to see you wind up a few Tories, despicable robbers that they are..
This is true everywhere: if you abuse your power you will be stripped of it.
