Daring new concepts could create a unique fresh memorial to the Newport Chartists.
A fusion of artistic energies, bold thinking and idealism could create a marvellous new Newport Chartist memorial. With Michael Sheen enthused and a bold spirit from the Council, a fresh vivid, living, singing, speaking memorial is attainable.
In the style of son et lumiere an accurate dramatic portrayal of the Westgate attack could be projected in a dedicated corner of the new development. A splendid theme would be based on the magnificent poem of Gillian Clarke which describes the suffering, hope and despair of 1839. A skilled storyteller could assemble the element of images, poetry with music could providing the continuity of a stirring emotional heroic saga. Participation by the public could be encouraged, joining the Chartists chants and poems.
The most sophisticated modern technology should be employed combined with talents of many genres to create an unforgettable visual and audible message of gratitude, hope and inspiration.
The major cost would of the investment in talent and resources used in the creation of the original son et lumiere plus the planning or adaption of a public area equipped with loudspeakers and surfaces fit to display projected images. Running costs would be minimal because the display would be repeated, possibly for 15 minutes on the hour every daylight hour.
This could be a continuing tribute deploying the skills of tomorrow to celebrate the sacrifices of yesterday.

Newport's Chartist memory deserves a fresh stimulus for a new generation. Add living exhibit to static memorials. http://paulflynnmp.typepad.com/

@Paulflynnmp Why create ephemera? Good job ancient civilisations left us tangible art so we understand them and in turn ourselves.
-
@Paulflynnmp I adored your paragraphs on this subject "Paul the chartist", as the eisteddfod would have it, in your book

@Hypnotron The power will be in the message not the media. The technology can be continually recreated to engage and inspire.
-
@Hypnotron Splendid permanent memorials already in Newport and Blackwood. Need for a Chartist memorial in Parliament they helped to shape
