Perturbation is the displacement of badgers that happens when a cull of the species is conducted in a specific area. It is the reason why badger culling to control bTB does not have the benefits expected. However, 'robust perturbation boundaries' prevents this. After watching the environment minister John Griffiths AM argue that 'scientific modelling' of badger culling shows it would not succeed in North Pembrokeshire because of 'perturbation', I walked along the coast path to spot the splash of swimming badgers diving into the Irish sea. No such feats of aquatic endurance were visible. It's when politicians misrepresent 'scientific evidence' to avoid taking difficult decisions the real absurdity becomes evident.
