Friday 24th
Information surgery in Maesglas Newport with the Assembly Member Rosemary Butler.
Then a eulogy at St Basil's to a greatly loved former headmistress Joan Todd. She shaped the character of Pillgwenlly School. With nine mother tongue languages the new school could have become a Tower of Babel. Joan created a sanctuary of harmony. Half the children pray with hands clasped in the Christian tradition. The others cup them in the Muslim tradition. All recite the same prayer.
Saturday 25th
Planned surgery cancelled because all cases were dealt with more efficiently through e-mails. Face-to-face surgeries are dwindling in importance. Bracing alternative was on the knocker greeting constituents and plumbing the depths of their anger on the NHS upheaval.
Sunday 26th
Powerful reminder of the abject awfulness of the tabloid press. On the Public Administration Committee's Spartan economy class flight a Tory MP topped up my indignation level by showing me his copies of the wretched Mail and Sun.
The Mail continue their manic anti-MP obsession by leading with a four day old MP punch-up story that has already been sucked dry by other media. Inevitably, last month they wickedly misrepresented my new book as anti-MP. It is strongly pro-MP. Reinforces my description of the 'journalist' responsible as the 'Creme de la Scum.'
The little that was not vacuous in the new Sun was scary. They are out to soften public resistance to another futile was against Iran.
Saturday 25th - great that people are aware of the NHS upheaval, but I thought it wouldn't affect us here in Newport?
