Former AM Jonathan Morgan was universally praised this morning for his cool, self-effacing guest presentation of BBC Wales' Sunday Supplement this morning.
The regular presenter Vaughan Roderick has already tweeted his thoughts on retiring. It's was a bold decisions to insert four guest amateurs to chair what has become Wales' flagship political programme. Broadcast between 8.00 and 9.00 it has little competition in the Godslot. Last week Rhodri Morgan was Rhodri Morgan as the guest presenter. He occasionally wandered off-piste with Rhodri-isms but he finished all the items on time. He gave the programme an extra frisson of excitement.
It was great start to the day because I was asked to talk about the quality of our MPs. Contrary to usual vilification of MPs, praise was offered to some of the splendid new members who are future statrs. The main reason for re-writing my Guide on How to be an MP is parliament has changed utterly. The expenses scandal, the Tony Wright reforms and Speaker Bercow have created a new world at Westminster. I will have to re-write at least 80% of the book. My highest hope is that I can prod my fellow MPs into accelerating the power of the backbenchers over Governments. When parties in power change, it usually means exchanging the scripts from the opposition. That is why backbenchers newly liberated by Speaker Bercow and the Wright Reforms can achieved great things.
Sunday Supplement gave me an additional bonus today. I met for the first time a favourite feisty journalist Carolyn Hitt. I have long admired her entertaining work. She was on top form on the paper review-even though Manx pants were beyond my understanding.
Invented quote
The People newspaper reported today.
"MP Paul Flynn accused Starkey of racism and said he should not appear on the BBC or any other channel."
A badly distorted report of what I said which was this tweet. No-one from the paper has contacted me
One of the great mystery of our time. Why do BBC provide a platform for the twisted, mean, white tribal bigotry rabble rousing of Starkey?
Apropos of nothing here...
It is great to see Cameron addressing moral issues, if only previous governments like John Major's had thought to do something like that, it would have been bound to be a success.
Luckily for Cameron there is no credible opposition party.

"Manx pants were beyond my understanding"
These are as worn by Steve Rodan, speaker of the House of Keys
