It not the budget that is the problem, it's our excessive commitments in war zones. The brass hats were gung-ho for the Iraq war and the Helmand mission.

..its not just the brass hats that were gung ho was it ? Having seen Mr Blair on TV last night he was as well

I agree, the military are always after cash for the technology to blow things up - BUT , if the government wants to fight two wars at the same time, which is in excess of the committments envisaged in the Strategic Defense review then I'd suggest increased spending is a consequence of that.

If the ex-defense staff think we need more spending when defense inflation is around 7% then something will have to give - but I will not accept sending out forces out to fight in kit that is not up to job ..
