As you know that comment was made 35 years ago. One of the buildings I had in mind has just been pulled down - the Kingsway car park.

I am a fan of the much abused Riverfront. Most of the criticism came while it was still a building site. But it's attractive and functional.

The new footbridge and the other new bridge are pleasing designs. What else do you have in mind?

'bleak uniformity of the town centre redevelopment'

Nothing changes here does it! The current proposals for the redevelopment of Newport city centre are admirably ambitious; but why, oh why, do they have to be so aesthetically vacuous? It's almost as if Newport's town planners are in perpetual competition with their previous selves to build the most god-damn awfully ugly buildings available to humanity. This, of course, in a city with one of the finest art colleges in the country.
