Yes there is an argument for not relying on the USA - but not at any cost.

We have had a long history of duplicating equipment in Europe at five times the cost that of buying it from mainly American sources. A great book published last year named 'Dragons, lions and dinosaurs' by Lewis Page is an account of similar projects in the past where each taxpayer in the UK has been forced to pay thousands of pounds in the name of European nationalism.

Personally I prefer Pepsi to Coca Cola - find it less sweet. Is there not some argument here about being reliant on the US?
