THIS IS NOT MEANT TO COVER ALL THE RESPONSES. Many on the Argus site were added later. Others are very repetitive. The key question is repeated by one writer:-"A serious question asked of Mr Fear on the viability of building student accommodation was not answered with a hardheaded assessment of the current situation but turned away with glib answer that Mr Fear believes in the future not the past."
We still have no answer on the evidence base for these plans. The student accommodation need is not proved. This is crucial and the answer given was woeful. These are the basic questions I would ask at a select committee. Very few were asked at the public meeting, none were fully answered. I am sure the planners will do their work in thoroughly examining this scheme.
@PaulFlynnMP Re "bleakly Romanian (1980 epoch) style from the Ceausescu school of grey tall concrete" put beautifully sir !

More Student accommodation! Seems as if all developments in Newport now come with the words ' student accommodation' how many do we need? Social housing to house all the immigrants flooding into the country is what we need!

"A serious question asked of Mr Fear on the viability of building student accommodation was not answered with a hardheaded assessment of the current situation but turned away with glib answer that Mr Fear believes in the future not the past." - Paul Flynn's Blog. Well, the future suggests a further rationalisation of the sector at the Newport "entry" level so Flynn maybe has a point. Fear's Wiki pages read like Boys Own puffery.
I'd love to see the site developed and it's an excellent location, but do we really need more student accommodation? Especially as more and more of the university seems to be being packed off to Cardiff
How dare Paul Flynn comment on a matter like this ! The fact that it is in his constituencey and he is the MP does not give him the right to pass judgement !!!

I must admit that when I first saw the artist impressions of the development I was distinctly unimpressed with their visual appearance. When you look at city centre developments going on in Cardiff & Swansea they are of a much higher architectual standard. Newport needs better this.

Just to say i totally agree with your comments regarding the developers of this site, their plans are a total disgrace.
Also they do not look to me to be the most ********** ******** of companies, with some very strange interests.
I hope the planners and planning committee of Newport totally reject the proposal.
Kind Regards MB Newport.
It seems to be an over development of quite a small site. What parking provision are they makin as well. I cannot see how sensibly that can be fitted onto the site There is a very big question mark over the need for accommodation for 600 students. I think as well that long term the future of the Newport Campus has to be in doubt as it is wedged into a small cramped site with few facilties
There is already a block of students flats by George street bridge, the owners went broke as they couldn't fill the rooms. So why do we need another one? The'll just become a block of slums. with pee smelling lifts, and stinking rubbish bins. and fights every week end. and come the summer holidays it will become broken into and the copper fittings stolen.
