Charity Commissioner Boss William Shawcross declined to say what the cost in litigation would be if the Commission had honoured its 2012 decisions to deny Charity status. The cash-strapped Charity Commission was desperate for the bolthole of a compromise. Yesterday they defended their deal but lamentably failed to explain how they would police the new saintly behaviour of cult members. It would be an impossible task but the Commissioners drowning in a financial morass grasped at this straw.
