One person's experience at the hands of G4S helps to explain the calamity. The Government have trusted and favoured a few private companies. Another brick on the spoil heap of the Coalition Ineptocracy.
My son applied for employment as a Security Team Leader at the Olympics with G4S in February 2012. He served for approx 18 years with the Paras and subsequently was employed on security work with various private contractors in Iraq for 8 years. He successfully passed the interview/screening process and was informed he would receive 2 weeks training in April and could expect about 4 months work. As a professional and fully accredited (SIA) person he did not feel he would need the full training (as I understand it there are various gradations of Qualification and his was already at the top end) but acceted that rather than merely, say, covering procedures that were domestic to G4S which might be completed in a matter of a few days.he might have to undergo the full training as part of the system procedures. Since then he heard little or nothing from them until the past few days despite various and numerous telephone calls and emails. As of today he has still not been given a date for training. In his case he has meantime been gainfully employed in other temporary security posts.
His experience is not unique - as you may be aware from radio/press comments! I know of another who was similarly told he was successful in his bid for a Team Leader post and that he would be called for training. Again despite telephone calls/emails he has heard nothing further about training - indeed about anything! In his case, he is registered as a job seeker (presumably getting benefis) and being pressed by DWP as to when he would take up employment. Again, in his case as an unaccreditd person, he saw the training and subsequent accreditation (assuming he was successful) as a bonus, not only because he would not personally have to pay (approx £2,000) to gain the qualification, but he could then probably be able to use that and his experience as a means to further employment in that sector.
Further, there are a number of cases recorded on Facebook etc who, in the absence of any information from G4S have meantime taken up other job opportunities.
It appears to me that this whole process seems to be completely unorganised, and one must wonder what has happened to the monies paid by the authorities to cover this absent activity.
